A piston’s function is to generate power. It is
a high temperature pressure seal. It is a rotating linear bearing. It must
be compatible with its mating parts particularly the cylinder bore and head.
The piston must be incredibly strong, durable, precise and lightweight. It
has to be shaped and machined so that the unique thermal expansion of its
various section will make it efficient at elevated operating temperatures
while reciprocating in some cases in excess of 17,000 rpm. This is what Forged Pistons do! |
